My Story as a Mom and Spouse of AD/HD Loved Ones.
A little over 18 years ago, I was first introduced to the idea that something other than willful and intentional bad behavior was driving my then 4 year old son to engage in non-stop talking, act as if he had a hearing problem, wait until the very last minute to find the bathroom (sometimes too late), interrupt conversations, be a couple of steps behind his peers in following directions, and a host of other frustrating behaviors.
A neighbor mentioned a condition that he'd read about called ADD that affected boys, and even had a book with a single page description of the characteristics.
That single moment turned my life-around, as well as the lives of my son and husband. I was able to begin to see my son in a different light and with that spark, I embarked on a journey of knowledge and help for my son that has evolved into a career as an AD/HD Life Management Coach.
Along the way my husband was also diagnosed with AD/HD (in the early '90's when adult identification was still just in its infancy stage) which helped to explain a lot of the chaos that we, as parents of one small boy, experienced on a daily basis.
Living with AD/HD, whether it's your diagnosis or that of a loved one or business associate, is full of adventure (you never really know what's going to happen next), frustration ("why can't he just do what he says he going to do, on time?"), anger ("why do I have to play Mom to my husband?"), and sometimes sadness ("I guess I just don't get how hard AD/HD is for someone.")
Coaching Experience and Professional Background.
For over 15 years I have helped families and individuals sort out the questions, difficulties and stresses connected with AD/HD, and provide them with the support and coping skills they have needed to live more productive and happier lives.
As a former senior level executive and marketing consultant for corporations that include General Mills, Tetley USA, Kraft Foods and Unilever, I have an understanding of the business world and a proven track record of performance. My coaching style gets to the heart of a person's workplace challenges, intuitively understanding their limitations, while helping them to develop effective performance strategies, supported with coaching structure and accountability, that will help them meet their specific goals and those of their employer.
I also extend my coaching time to the academic environment as a middle school intervention tutor. Coaching that's focused on improving organization and time management skills, in conjunction with tutoring on a daily basis helps 7th and 8th grade students overcome their academic challenges, improve their performance
and gain self confidence.
