Effective solutions for attention, organization, time management, behavior & academic challenges.
The role of AD/HD Coaching is to support people in addressing the challenges of living with AD/HD. When people come to me for AD/HD Coaching, it's likely that they have already tried a variety of strategies with mixed results to help them:
- Reduce the chaos at home;
- Get their child to behave better at home and in public;
- Support their children's school performance;
- Reduce the clutter and get more organized;
- Have a better relationship with their spouse;
- Quit procrastinating and get something accomplished;
- Feel more in control of life;
- Reduce the feeling of stress, anxiety and overwhelm;
- And many other reasons to change to the way their lives are currently going.
The Coaching Model.
Coaching assumes that when you seek the support of an AD/HD Coach you are ready to learn more about yourself and how your AD/HD influences the success in your life, and are willing to start the process toward positive change.
Together we will identify your goals, utilizing questions to help you dig in to explore and reveal what steps work for you, where the barriers exist that may prevent your ability to move forward, and then develop a plan with short and long term strategies to help you reach your goals.
As your coach, I will help you stay focused, provide ongoing support to encourage motivation, and help you recognize when you've made progress, even when you don't see it.
The Coaching Process.
We will meet on a regular basis (generally weekly) in person, by phone or web access, with between-session check-ins by phone or email to discuss your progress, and maintain a sense of structure and accountability.
The first coaching session is typically 1–2 hours in length to discuss in detail how your AD/HD challenges appear, and then to develop a step–by–step plan for identifying and achieving the your goals. Goals will be discussed as primary and secondary in importance in order to effectively address those that will make the greatest impact on your life.
Group Coaching. Support programs are available for all ages and may be offered throughout the year including:
- Effective Parenting;
- Understanding and Living with an AD/HD Partner;
- Thriving with Adult AD/HD;
- Tossing the Clutter and Organizing Your Life.
Typical AD/HD Coaching Challenges:
Recognizing what behaviors you can and can't live with and developing a plan for change with specific strategies for home, work and school;
Getting control over the clutter and disorganization in your home or office and making it work for you, not against you.
Optimizing the work being done by your education and healthcare team; learn how to manage your support resources; questions to ask, when to ask for more;
Setting realistic school and social expectations for your child, and learning how to help your child meet them with patience and understanding;
Developing better social skills and friendships. Helping your child make friends, get invited to birthday parties and play dates, enjoy team sports.
Becoming your child's and spouse’s advocate without feeling like you're making excuses for him all the time;
Developing a more equitable division of power and responsibility. No one family member should receive the majority of attention, negative or positive, nor should one member have to assume an inequitable share of responsibility for the family or relationship;
Getting through the college process; selecting the right school; making a smooth transition and succeeding;
Developing better emotional and executive skills for realizing success in the workplace.
